As a senior functional safety engineer / team leader I am responsible for planning and execution of safety activities as requested by CARIAD department T3 (ADAS & Automated Driving). CARIAD is the software company from Volkswagen Group that is consolidating and further expanding the Group's SW competencies to transform automotive mobility. CARIAD is developing a leading tech stack for the automotive industry with the mission to make the automotive experience safer, more sustainable and more comfortable.

Since 2011 working as a Functional Safety Expert, Cybersecurity Professional and Trainer for KASES (www.kases.nl). Since 2011 I have provided safety management, safety engineering support and cyber security support in more than 15 projects for several automotive organizations. During the development of the EOX 175, a full-electric tractor (mobile machine) with fuel cell range extender, all-wheel steering, adjustable track width, power take-off system, KASES is supporting EOX with: • Inventory and initial risk assessment of safety critical systems. • Estimation of required performance Level according ISO 13849 (Annex A). • Recommendations for safety measures to be taken.

Supporting Valeo in Tuam (Ireland) and BMW with the hardware and SW development of an ASIL D Domain Controller (ADAS) in the IP-Next project for BMW. My responsibilities: • Development of a safety concept for the Aurix TC397 safety controller. • Development of a technical safety concept for the ethernet switch. • Definition of the power supply monitoring concept. • Supporting the definition of the temperature monitoring concept. • Reviews of safety analysis (FMEDA, Dependent Failure Analysis).

As a functional safety consultant I supported THE LANDROVERS with the development of the Full Electric Defender with the following responsibilities: • Initial inventory of safety critical systems in the e-DEFENDER vehicle. • HARA on the electric propulsion system. • FTA and deriving the functional and technical safety concept. • Supporting the supplier management. • Supporting the system architectural design. • Providing strategic recommendations for achieving functional safety.

In the role of functional safety engineer I supported Alten GmbH with: 1) Development of an Integrated Brake Control system (IBC) for ZF (ASIL D). ZF was developing this “brake-by-wire” system for Daimler/Mercedes.. 2) Activities involved execution of FMEA based on system architecture for specific functions (e.g. corner brake control, straight line braking), deriving the functional safety concept and technical safety concept. Also reviews of other work products (e.g. fault tree analysis of colleagues).

Training & organizational safety management. Functional safety management in the DT1 project for Tata Motors: development of a conventional DCT, ASIL C. Functional safety management in DT2 project for Stellantis: development of hybrid DCT, ASIL D. I had to lead ±10 safety engineers. Recurring meetings with 6 suppliers and with the customer. Weekly alignments with cybersecurity team. We successfully executed safety audit and assessments with SGS-TUV and with customer.

Functional safety consultancy Providing templates for various ISO 26262 work products. Reviewing various work products, for example item definition, safety plan, HARA, DIA, FTA’s and technical safety concepts.

ISO 26262 training for the management team. Functional safety management in a “safety element out of context development” of an airsuspension system with ASIL C.

ISO 26262 training for HW and SW engineers. Functional safety management in a project for VB Airsuspension, which involved development of an Air suspension ECU with ASIL C.

Functional safety management at organizational level. Safety management in 4 projects for VW, Audi and Porsche; development of steering column switching modules and steering angle sensor, ASIL D. Safety management in a project for BMW; development of Gear Shift Selector Switch, ASIL B. Improvement of existing methods. Introducing new methods (Software-FMEA, qualitative FTA's at system level, ASIL decomposition, dependent failure analysis, impact analysis, assessments of series-production, etc.).

Fault tree analysis for a short range radar system for Audi (ASIL B).

Functional safety management support at organizational level. Safety management in electronic sun roof projects for Honda and Daimler (ASIL A). ISO 26262 training for Management and Engineers.

Training and coaching of the required skills (e.g executing system FMEA’s). ISO 26262 training for Management and Engineers. Functional safety management in a pilot project; this concerns a “safety element out of context development” of an electric driveline for heavy duty vehicles with electric wheel motors and safety goals up to ASIL C.

Functional safety management support at organizational level. Functional safety management in a project for Audi, Porsche and VW; involved the development of a door control module with top level technical safety requirements up to ASIL B.
