Dominique Plewes

After having served in various Nonprofit Board capacities, I founded the SOF Support Foundation in 2017, funding specialized mental health programs for returned service members, where I continue to serve as Chairperson. Since 2019, I have undertaken a series of fact finding trips to Jordan, Iraq, and Syria, to better understand the people and the challenges they face. During my time overseas,I met with numerous high-level local officials, community members, and refugees. My family has deep roots in the Middle East. My great grandmother Rose Antun, her husband Nicola Haddad along with her brother Farah Antun began a tradition of trying to improve conditions in the Levant over 100 years ago. Nicola and Farah were well know journalist in their time. Rose founded several magazines: “Women and Girls'' (later renamed to “Ladies'') and “Women and Men,” as well as the platform “Modern Salon” that allowed for intellectual debates that conveyed concerns and ideas through women’s dialogues.
