Harmonization of IT support for the Faculty through formation of the the 'Advanced IT Support Centre' - AISC. Re-orientation of IT provision from pure commodity services to a mix of commodity and value added advanced IT services (incl. high end and leading edge technologies).

A variety of IT Consultancy roles with: Devigo Limited - Set up of new spin off comapny for Data and Knowledge Management - www.METATAXA.com, recruitment, project management and software development and installation management. DeltaE- Supporting the development of a business plan, initial user base and attract additional funding. Imperial College - Feasability study for a potential move of the existing Data Centre NWDA - market research for start up company, assemment of international potential.

Leading the Experimental Facilities Data Infrastructure Programme, (40 staff reports from 10 different groups and 5 different departments incl. 5 managers, annual budget ~£1.5 million), incl. programme strategy, business analysis, architecture, planning and delivery incl. finance, risk management, compliance and quality control, stakeholder management and communication at all levels to CEO, service delivery, international relationships and consulting, presentations, publications and reports.

Leading and Developing the Data management activity within STFC through internal and external collaborations with other IT institutes and Universities and general science researchers around the World. Development of high throughput computing with integrated data management framework. Initiation of Data Curation initiative within the organisation.

Co-ordination of the High Performance Computing support for the UK Scientific Research Community provided through three centres at Southampton, Edinburgh and Daresbury.

Parallelisation and optimisation of scientific high performance computing simulation codes. Performance prediction, benchmarking. Development of the Data Management for High performance Computing area within CCLRC.

Kerstin was responsible for supporting all parallel programming requirements of DKRZ users. This included parallelization and optimisation of oceanic and atmospheric modelling codes, introduction of new message passing libraries and parallel tools. She was also involved in the benchmarking and acceptance testing of high end computing systems. In addition, she developed, organized and presented parallel programming courses.

Paid position to complete my thesis on 'Functional Modelling of the integration of business information and operational management of IT infrastructures within an organisation', in its remit I developed a database design for a banking customer to integrate the administrative and technical management of their IT equipment (owned and third party) throughout their organisation and all its branches.

Kerstin’s duties included system administration and user support. Starting off with an Alliant FX80 (8 vector processor) system with vt100 terminals, the infrastructure was upgraded to a Cray EL (4 vector processor) system, 3 HP700 workstation and X-terminals. The other half of her post focussed on software devevelopment, incl. a range of pre-processing tools for automatic 2D and 3D mesh generation including automatic refinement for areas with increased stress levels.

I am currently studying for an MBA at the Open University with an emphasize on performance management and change.
