The main task of my master's thesis is the commissioning of more potent reactor for the production of silicon nanowires and tracking of its ideal parameters. Besides skills in laboratory scale synthesis of nano particles, electrochemical analysis methods, characterization of silicon nanowires are demanded.

Evaluation of Vulcan type carbon support modification by aromatic nitration and reduction for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) by the usage of Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) and elemental analysis. Also porosity determinations via Nitrogen adsorption isothermes and evaluation via BET, T-method and QSDFT/NLDFT.

In this thesis an alternative and controversial way of determining the age of ball point pen entries has been investigated. Herein the age determination by phenoxyethanol quantification via FTIR-ATR could be proven as not suitable.

Study of chemical reactivity of model catalyst systems under both UHV (ultra high vacuum) and ambient (applied reaction) conditions by means of in-situ (UHV) measurements with state of the art surface science techniques (i.e. TPD/TPR, pMBRS, IRRAS, MIES, UPS and AES). Assistance in the daily measurement routine, e.g. preparation of surfaces, monitoring their cleanliness, deposition of mono disperse cluster catalyst materials and probing the reactivity by the afore mentioned surface science methods.
